ACTION ALERT

This is an Action Alert from the Zionist Organization of America-Greater Philadelphia District.

BACKGROUND: British Prime Minister Tony Blair is in Washington today to push President Bush into actively "re-engaging" in the so-called peace process between Arab-Palestinians and Israelis. What Blair's efforts will produce, of course, is the demise of the only democracy in the Middle East: Israel.

Blair is predicted to use his leverage as Bush's prime partner in the effort to democratize Iraq to extract the following concessions from Israel:

a.. Constricting Israel's boundaries back into its 1967 or 1948 borders;
b.. Barring Israel from pursuing Arab terrorists into the Gaza Strip;
c.. Renouncing the requirement that the PA first dismantle terrorist groups and cease terrorism; and
d.. instead require Israel to negotiate with Arafat's successor no matter the new leader's actual and demonstrated commitment to peace.

A return to the 1967 or 1948 borders will translate into the opposite of what America's commitment has been: to ensure Israel remains a safe and secure Jewish state within defensible boundaries.

ACTION: Call and/or fax the British Embassy in Washington. Contact information is listed below. In your call or fax, simply demand that Britain and Tony Blair halt their attempt to force Israel into a more dangerous situation.

Emphasize that Israel is an independent and sovereign nation and can decide its own future without interference from Britain. Israelis face threats and daily attacks that no Brit has had to deal with since the end of the blitzkrieg 60 years ago. You must insist that Tony Blair continue his support for democracy in the Middle East; demanding dangerous concessions of Israel may well lead to the death of democracy in that fragile region of the world.

The idea of leveraging Britain's participation in an effort to liberate a people from terror and anarchy Iraq in order to create that very situation in Israel is a lethal paradox. Blair must instead encourage and join President Bush in continuing to support Israel as the only democracy and the only ally of freedom and liberty in the Middle East.
